Who is Give Naked?
The short answer is, that we are the sum of all our members, every person who likes our Facebook page or joins our Newsletter is part of Give Naked. This is not an individual project. It's the beginning of a large community of people who would like to help make a difference in our communities and the world, together. We're a group of like-minded people who are going to make a difference. Size doesn't matter when it comes to donations. If enough people give small amounts to a single cause, we can change the world one "give" at a time.
Why the Name Give Naked?
Honestly is was pretty much a fluke. We were kicking around names for the project and after many possibilities, someone said that he pays attention anytime he hears the word "naked." Ya know...Not a bad idea. Memorable, catchy, fun...What the heck, Give Naked it was. We see lots of fun ideas we can use it for in the future.
Is it Faith Based?
No. We are Need Based. Some of the organizations we are working are faith based, but we are not. We simply look for the need and get into action.
How Did it Start?
It began as a community project for a class a friend was taking called the "Self Expression and Leadership Program", which is part of a program from Landmark Education. From there a group of friends met over a glass of wine and a couple beers and simply started giving. The first "give" resulted in 8 people giving a total of $69. People heard about the project and started giving money directly the CherylAnn and Dave. All total we raised nearly $250 which was enough to keep the heat on for a local family for a month and a half. We figure if eight people can do that in about two minutes, imagine what a group of a million people can do.
What's the Long Term Goal?
The goal is to gather a large community of people who want to directly give and make a difference in people's lives. We see power in numbers. Imagine 20,000 or even 2,000,000 people in one group willing to give even a dollar directly to a cause as a single group of givers. The power to do good in the world would be inspiring.
Youth Board
One of our most powerful parts of the organization was something we called the Youth Board. They were there from day one, helping organize and get the word out. They by far out produced the adults in their efforts. It was truly inspiring to see them take off and run with this new organization. Much of the success of GiveNaked belongs to them. They ran 3 seperate give programs in the High School and Middle School and also reached out to Manson and several other schools to participate. They dreampt up and executed a summer concert in the park and an informational booth at Warp Tour. They did this all with very little help from the adult board.
